A note on referrals and triaging:
Please note that owing to the high volume of referrals received, we do not have the capacity to review patients for the management of chronic pain (including chronic regional pain syndrome and chronic lower back pain), but we do have the capacity to perform a diagnostic clinical review and/or NCS/EMG if there is a diagnostic question as to an associated neurological complication such as radiculopathy, plexopathy or peripheral nerve injury
Please also note that owing to the high volume of referrals received, referrals are triaged according to medical urgency and the booking timeframe then reflects this. We are also happy to review patients who have previously had another treating neurologist for pragmatic geographical reasons or for a second opinion if requested, but these patients will be triaged with a lower priority so that patients who have not ever seen a neurologist can also receive timely care

Dr Thomas "Tom" D. Riisfeldt is incredibly excited and proud to be the first ever permanently-based neurologist working in Port Macquarie! He has worked in Port Macquarie for 3 years previously and has a strong connection to the region at both professional and personal levels, and he is now returning home after completing his extensive training in epilepsy, neurophysiology/neuromuscular medicine and all other areas of clinical neurology in various metropolitan sites in NSW and interstate. He is now accepting referrals, and will commence private outpatient practice at his newly established Port Macquarie Neurology on 9th February 2026. In addition to patient consultations, Tom provides electroencephalography (EEG) and nerve conduction study/electromyography (NCS/EMG) services, along with non-cosmetic Botulinum toxin treatments (for migraine and neuromuscular conditions).
